Phantasy Star Generation: 2 English Translation

It brings us much joy to report that an Phantasy Star Generation: 2 English translation patch has been released!

This is a very odd coincidence for me. I was literally looking at this game just the other night while researching for our Phantasy Star I page. To see a public Phantasy Star Generation: 2 English translation patch emerge just two nights later is crazy.

PS Cave, a long-time hub for Phantasy Star fanatics, is the home of the effort. Some of the same people involved released an English translation of Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 1: Phantasy Star Generation:1 previously.

Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 17: Phantasy Star Generation: 2 (SEGA AGES 2500シリーズ Vol.17 ファンタシースター generation:2) was a 2005 remake of the Genesis and Mega Drive’s classic RPG Phantasy Star II. It featured updated graphics and sound, new item creation and training features for teammates left at home base, and a challenge indicator for measuring an enemy’s ability compared to your own. There’s also many other changes to the story and game world.

It was later released on PSN for the PS3 and the group responsible for this translation claim a patch for that version is also coming in the future!

This first release is an open beta for all fans to check out and help identify any potential issues. They are calling for help in publicizing the translation and bug reporting.

You can check out some screenshots from the current version English translation below.

Here’s their current version notes:

This version is an open beta. Many pieces of equipment and techniques have had their names revised from their previous incarnations. Namely, many appeared to be German words spelled phonetically in Japanese (i.e., “Nish” is was actually spelled in Japanese as “Harnisch” which is German for “Armor.” Thus, it was decided many techniques will not be seen as they were in previous games like PSO or earlier. This was a collaborative effort with the members of the PSCave forum. A document noting specific changes for reference will be provided with the translated ISO (CRC32: C10FD10C) and the patch.

Download Note:
The remake features the original version of the game released for the original Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. The English translation contains the English ROM of the original game.

Great work, guys!
